Bad day at the office.....

Postby NigelC » Sun Jan 24, 2010 8:32 pm

Just had the flight from hell.....

CBF5143 1000 TSL/BHX 1320 B15 G-AZMF

Airborne from TSL, got to cruise level and lost an engine........divert to Podgorica......arrived OK

Sorted problem out and departed again for EGBB..........headwinds enroute.........fuel's staring to get a bit iffy but, ignoring all my real world knowledge, reckon I can scrape it.

BHX weather is not particularly nice, approach is OK but the it goes a bit wrong...didn't quite get the flare right in a crosswind and ended up floating it a long way down the runway....power on and go around...NOW the push-on-itis and reckon I can scrape it in comes back to bite me, not a lot of gas left!!!! I get round a quick visual circuit in weather that I shouldn't really do that in, a better approach and landing and vacate....now it all goes quiet.....tanks are empty

I should have gone into Brussels or maybe Ostend for more fuel........I got lazy on my fuel checks, I wanted to get to BHX and the flight finished after the divert.....next time it's by the book :wall:

Don't worry Nigel, nearly happened to me in my early days here, from Glasgow to Heathrow would you believe......on the approach at 10miles in the Trident my fuel gauge readings were reading 0%!! :-O :$ Got her down, then after parking up on the taxiway went back to 10 miles out on the same fuel load that I had remaining just to see what would happen if I had to go around.....got half way down-wind and ended up as a glider!!

NIgel.
Did you know that according to the laws of aerodynamics it is impossible for a bumble bee to fly.......fortunately the bumble bee doesn't know any thing about aerodynamics, so carries on flying.
